For millions of young people, the adjustment to college life from under the wing of their parents can be a challenge. College life requires a mature, responsible approach to academics as well as developing the life skills that adulthood demands. Use the advice found here to help you make the transition to adulthood go smoothly.

Create a list of items that you are going to need to bring along to college. It is time to take responsibility for what you need. You can no longer rely on your parents help for everything. This is particularly true if youre far away from them.

Be sure to sleep well and plenty. Do not let your social life keep you from getting the sleep you need, and avoid spending entire nights on your homework. Not getting enough rest can really have a negative impact on your whole college experience.

When you enter college, one of the first things that you should do is get a part time job. There are going to be a lot of hours that are available during the day, as this can help you increase your income. A job will pay its dividends and will reduce your worries when you are out having fun.

Do not get involved with the people that want to party all the time. Having fun during college is important, but there is a time and a place. If you allow yourself to fall into those bad habits, your grades will surely suffer. Only have fun when you have done everything you need to do..

You should be respectful of your roommates wishes. You need to learn how to work with him or her so that it makes your time easier. Sit down when you first get to school and find out what you both expect out of a roommate so you can both be happy.

Download foreign language learning podcasts and MP3 lessons onto your MP3 player or tablet. Listen to the lessons while driving or riding the bus to school. This will help prepare you for your foreign language classes. You can practice pronunciation, and work on vocabulary instead of wasting your travel time.

Exercise

Rise and shine at an early hour. You do not need to get up with the chickens, but getting up relatively early allows you enough time to eat breakfast, possibly workout and do a bit of studying.

If you are in class and find yourself bored out of your mind, do yourself a favor and stay until it ends. Often times college kids exercise their right to leave whenever they want but you never know when you will miss some truly important information. So make sure to attend every class in its entirety.

Get serious about exercise. Exercise is something that many students dont get enough of. Because weight gain is so normal in college freshmen especially, you have to make the time to get a small workout in so you can stay slim and fit. Think about jogging or using the campus pool to do your workouts.

Nutrition

Every freshman should understand and realize that the freshman 15 does in fact exist. It is important that everyone take the necessary steps to ensure that they are getting proper nutrition during their first year in college. While it might be tempting to pile on some fries for dinner every night, youll pay for it in the long run.

These tips should help a student avoid some of the pitfalls that afflict new college students. College life is one of the important milestones in a persons life and not everyone makes the adjustment well. Use the tips you read here to make this challenging time both productive and enjoyable. Your future depends on it.
